About

Richard Harvey

Welcome to my development blog. This is the part of the web where I develop new ideas and test them out. I also use this blog to help share information on how to do things within Linux and Ubuntu, hopefully someone will find the information useful.

I’m a big believer in sharing information that’s why I openly allow reuse of any of these articles under the creative commons license. I strongly urge you to check out their website and use it to share your knowledge also. Please feel free to comment on the blog and if you have any suggestions on how to do something different or better I’d love to hear from you.

I mainly script in PerlBashPHP, nodejs and Python, but who knows there’s likely to be something else cool to play with soon! You’ll find the projects I share under the projects menu at the top. The main attractions at the moment are the m0n0wall backup utility, apache-geo-maps, which is a perl script that parses an apache log file and plots the unique resolvable hits(IP’s) onto google maps! I also have a couple of WordPress plugins available, one of which is wp-rdfa which brings the semantic web to your WordPress blog. All the projects can be found on my Projects Page. You can also check out my github page with various code on it.

As for my background, I’ve been a *nix Systems Admin for 10 years+ and currently hold the position of Lead Project Engineer at Channel 4 Television where my work is mainly focused around large-scale web application delivery and video on demand. I work heavily with cloud technologies, with both public and private stacks. I deal with some interesting projects and traffic profiles that you don’t normally found in other industries. If you wish to find out more please check out my linkedin profile or follow me on twitter. As I’m a contractor I’m always available for consultations!
